Shannonville
Motorsport Park hosted this past
weekends "Ted Powell Memorial
Cup Race" under blazing hot
conditions. Another blazing performance
was provided by 19-year-old Malcolm
Strachan who guided his Williams
Performance Friction/Konica Canada Corvette
to pole position, a win in Saturday's
heat race, and again on Sunday,
in the final.
Strachan
was chased throughout the weekend
by Rochester N.Y. driver Joel
Reiser and Ottawa's Jim Harrison,
both in Porsches. Strachan's win
on Sunday was a difficult one
after the Corvette lost third
gear, forcing him to shift from
second to fourth gear at a cost
of approximately two seconds per
lap. Strachan, the current Championship
points leader, was able to use
traffic to his advantage and remained
ahead of Reiser for a flag-to-flag
win, his seventh win in ten races
in the CASC Touring-GT Championship
this year.
