Trillium
Trophy to Strachan
The
CASC Touring-GT Championship's
final race at Shannonville Motorsport
Park once again saw Malcolm Strachan
come away with maximum points.
Also, he was awarded the Trillium
Trophy by the Deutcher Auto Club
for winning the primary race of
the weekend.
Despite
securing the majority of the points
for fastest qualifier, fastest
race lap, and two wins, it was
no walk in the park in Sunday's
feature event.
Rochester
Porsche 911 RSR driver Joel Reiser
diced with Strachan for the entire
40 minutes of the twisty Shannonville
race circuit. With three laps
to go, Reiser made a decisive
move on the inside of the hairpin
turn, which leads onto the back
straight. Reiser's Porsche and Strachan's
Corvette C5 came into contact, causing damage to
the side-exiting exhaust system,
fiberglass door, and front and
rear wheels on the Corvette, as well as puncturing Rieser's left rear tire. After sliding off
the track, both cars continued,
with Reiser in the lead, and Strachan
in second and down on power with
the bent exhaust.
Reiser's
lead was short lived however,
as the punctured rear tire lost all air-pressure. Strachan,
in his Williams Performance Friction/Konica
Canada Corvette, took the lead,
and both Strachan and Reiser limped home with damaged cars. DeWolfe
started last in his BMW, due to
fuel problems in the first race,
but put in an incredible drive
to finish third in Sunday's final
race.
The
series moves to Mosport International
Raceway for the next round, August
9-10.
