Malcolm Strachan is currently a man of many trades.
Beyond pursuing a career as a professional racing driver,
he is working for a prominent engineering firm in Toronto,
Ontario, Canada as well as working part time as a racing
coach/instructor and as a driving specialist. After
recently graduating from Queen's University in Mechanical
Engineering, Malcolm moved to Toronto to be closer to
both the centers of both motorsport and engineering in
Ontario.
Malcolm started in karting at the age of 10, and progressed
through the ranks until he was 15. At 16, he stepped into
GT racing, competing in a regional-GT3 Toyota MR2. From there,
he leap-frogged from GT3, to GT2 in a Mazda RX7 Turbo, and then
into the GT1 Corvette C5 he campaigned from 2002 to 2007.
During the span of 2001 to 2007, Malcolm won four championships,
was twice runner-up in points and claimed many victories in
both Ontario and Quebec. Prominent race successes include
winning the 2006 Fall Classic at Mont Tremblant in the
GT1 class, finishing third in 2004 American GT race at
Mosport in a 1979 Trans-Am Corvette against more powerful,
modern Trans-Am cars, along with other great finishes usually
against more expensive and more powerful machinery.
Malcolm has many goals set out for the future. Short term
goals include a top-15 finish in the SG-Motorsport.com Nissan
350Z at Trois Rivieres and more top finishes in races of the
same calibre. Long term goals include racing in a top-tier
racing series such as ALMS, NASCAR or any other top form of
motorsport. Malcolm also hopes to compete in more
endurance races, and work toward competing in world-renowned
24-hour events such Le Mans, Daytona and Nurburgring.
